Wedding Celebration. A stark contrast between a public wedding celebration in the United States versus in Oaxaca (and other parts of Mexico) is that following the marriage ceremony, the wedding party (bride and groom, attendants, family members) are accompanied by hired performers as they first gathered outside the Templo de Santa Domingo then paraded several blocks down the Calle Macedonio Alcalá - the main pedestrian walkway. The wedding party stopped frequently to dance and toast (often with mescal) and offer similar libations to onlookers while a raucous brass band plays on, surrounded by dancers and other revelers. It wasn’t uncommon to observe as many as three such celebrations on any given Saturday.
