Carol and I along with a group of eight adventuresome Wisconsin birders spent 12 days birding in northern Ecuador. Despite heavy rains, mudslides, and cloud-obscured trails we managed to see and/or hear over 530 species of birds covering 56 bird families – a third of the species available in mainland Ecuador. What follows is a day-by-day accounting of our exploits. Would we do it again? We’re already planning a return trip to do southern Ecuador in 2010!
